Comminution
The aim of comminution techniques is to reduce the material size in order to reach the desired dimensions for the treatment to be applied or to release/unlock its individual components.
For materials with limited elastic deformation ("rocky" type), comminution includes crushing or grinding depending on the initial size of the fragments and the particle size sought. For plastic-type materials and certain metals (extended elastic or ductile field), shredding techniques need to be used.
With an even more limited application, cryogenics grinding constitutes an alternative that widens the scope of the reduction and the panel of comminution techniques applicable to plastic type materials.
Other moderate (scrubbing) or more intensive (attrition) procedures complete the comminution aspect.
