DUN³ES

DEVELOPMENT AND UPCYCLING OF NATURAL AND NON-NATURAL E-CIRCULAR SANDS

Sand is the most consumed natural resource after water.
Increased urbanisation explains why demand, which has already tripled in just 20 years, continues to grow, jeopardising the sustainability of this raw material on a global scale.

Belgium is no exception and is seeing a gradual depletion of its sand pits. Furthermore, although the country exports sand, it also has to import this resource to meet the needs of the construction and materials sector.

Paradoxically, some of the sand accumulates in quarries and is not used for construction, partly because of its fine particle content.

Based on this observation, the DUN³ES project aims to investigate and exploit sand deposits that are, at first glance, of lower quality.
