The CARMAT project aims to increase the recyclability  of steel slag by valorising the fine fractions for which there exist little or no outlets by manufacturing materials intended for buildings and public works (BPW).

This project also pursued two other goals:

  • Contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions through materials manufacturing processes, less energy-intensive than those related to competing products (bricks, building blocks, etc.) and based on carbonation on the basis of industrial CO2;
  • Guaranteeing both their toxicological and environmental harmlessness by a durable immobilization of potential contaminants within materials based on steel slag.
