Plaster waste constitutes a considerable proportion of construction waste as in Belgium it amounts to a deposit of 80kt/an.
At this moment in time, Wallonia has no sector dedicated to plaster-based waste recycling and upcycling.
The REPLIC project thus has the objective of devising a pioneering process leading to:
- Treating a vast variety of waste plaster (sheets, blocks, tiles, stucco, rendering, fibrous plaster) currently earmarked for engineered landfill sites;
- Widening the scope of possible recycling sectors following the production of a quality recyclate of gypsum, including in particular the cement sector whose vast absorption capacity avoids this recyclate competing with synthetic gypsum (phosphogypsum);
- Increasing the potentialities of integrating this gypsum recyclate in certain materials such as plasterboards.
