VALOCELL

Recycling and upcycling of cellular masonry blocks

The project’s goal is the development of a complete sector of collection, sorting and ‘materials’ valorisation of masonry blocks made of cellular concrete found in the cumbersome, non-incinerable waste generated by the construction industry. By isolating them from de-construction waste streams such as rubble and plasterboard, for example, these blocks will be, after treatment and functionalising, upcycled into formulations of concrete with value added.

The CTP will test various sorting and separation techniques in dry sorting to isolate the cellular concrete found in the cumbersome, non-incinerable waste. The fragmentation required to incorporate cellular concrete into a formulation of concrete will then be assessed by the CTP.
