WHOLETRACK

Development, via a global dynamic analysis, of innovative solutions targeting the improvement of the performances of ballasted railway track

The costs of the maintenance and repair of the European railway networks – the Belgian network in particular – are clearly rising. In fact, if the average age is remaining stable, thanks to regular maintenance, the increase in the traffic and the loads continues, leading to requests for yet more railway track.

The aim of the project was to understand the interactions and to develop new solutions for three key-elements whose function is to support the moving loads and to stabilise the rail tracks: the ballast, the rails and the sleeper elastic soles.
